Is This the Funniest Home Run Call Ever?
(Photo Credit: Videoland Sports YouTube Site)
Manny Ramirez hit his eighth home run of the season Friday night. It was his first long ball since May 19th, and boy was the announcer ever prepared for it.
Check out the call here.
Notice how calm the conversation between the two announcers is before the play-by-play man notices the ball is gone.
"This ball is long gone, just like the ex-girlfriend who will never return!" the announcer exclaims in choppy English as Manny trots around the bases. He then goes on to translate the sentence into Mandarin just so everyone understands.
What makes this call hilarious is that it's obvious he has been planning on using it for quite some time now. Those aren't the kind of calls that you just make up on the spot, especially when English isn't your mother tongue.
Adding to the humor is the shot of a kid holding a giant purple Dallas Stars football helmet-umbrella with number 99 painted on the side and Manny dreads flowing from the back.
For those keeping track, Manny turned in one of his faster home run trots of the season at 25.4 seconds. Perhaps he's been working on his speed after getting thrown out by a country mile trying to score from second on a single last night.
