Manny Did Taiwan

It is official - Manny Ramirez is done with baseball in Taiwan. The EDA Rhinos have informed the CPBL that Manny has been taken off their active roster.

Yahoo! Taiwan reported earlier that he would leave for Japan, but the Rhinos will not confirm this. There have been reports that the Chiba Lotte Marines have serious interest. The Rhinos simply say Ramirez will leave the country on June 21st because he misses his family.

It will be interesting to see what news the weekend brings. The Chiba Lotte Marines could offer at least ten times what he was making here in Taiwan, and the Pacific League would be far more challenging for the 41-year old.

Stay tuned to Manny Does Taiwan for updates.

Here are his final stats:

Games 49

AB 182
RBI 43

  1. I appreciate the updates you post on this blog regarding Manny. Great work. If you have any further news on him please update us. Also, if Manny goes to Japan to play will you change your title of your site? lol

  2. It's been a lot of fun following your site and your tweets. Thanks for all of the updates this season, Brandon. Best of luck to you in the future.

  3. I've only just now found your blog linked from the excellent sports on earth article. We had a good run with Manny here, huh? My five-year-old got excited whenever Manny was up and we regularly tuned in to Rhinos games to watch the big fella. We may continue to watch but it won't be the same without 曼尼. The CPBL is better for having him during his brief tenure and I hope he enjoyed playing in Taiwan. It's just a shame he won't be around as the Rhinos battle for title!

  4. Well, it was fun while it lasted. I got out to the stadium a couple of times and was lucky enough to see Manny's first CPBL home run. If he does go to Japan I hope he has success there, too. He sure has been great for baseball in Taiwan.

And I'll be looking forward to seeing where you take the blog from here, Brandon. As always, excellent reports!

  5. Brandon--

I wanted to thank you for your blog and all of the effort you've put into it. I've gotten a great deal of enjoyment from it.

I've been following Manny since the 1990s when we lived in Cleveland--he's still the most entertaining, engaging (and funny) ballplayer I've ever seen. He also almost singlehandedly gave my daughters their love for baseball.

The logistics look a little daunting, but if you're able to continue your blog and update Manny in Japan, please, please do.

    Best regards.

  6. Brandon - it's been great reading your blog this season. I hope you keep it up on the CPBL in general even after the league loses its biggest personality.

For those looking to follow Manny if he does go to Chiba, there is an excellent fan blog to be found at

I wish Manny was staying just a few more weeks - I have tickets to the Rhinos on July 6th, we booked with him in mind! Oh well!
