Manny Hits His Eighth, Rhinos Win
The Brother Elephants were probably thinking a series sweep this weekend would put them in a prime position to challenge for the half-season championship. Manny Ramirez and Lin Yi Chuan helped ensure that would not happen.
The CPBL home run leaders went back-to-back in the bottom of the second inning as the EDA Rhinos rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to win 7-4. Ramirez's eighth long ball of the season barely made it into the first row in left, and Lin's tenth did not go much further.
Manny's eighth CPBL home run will long be remembered as the one where the announcer compared it to an ex-girlfriend. It's one of the funnier home run calls you will ever see, and the English baseball media have taken notice. Yahoo!'s Big League Stew wants the NSA to bring back the announcer with Manny, while SportsGrid is asking if anyone has ever heard a better home run call.
Ramirez ended the evening 1-for-2 with the home run and two walks. His average creeps up to .363 and he now has 42 RBI in 43 games.
Former Chicago Cubs second-round draft pick Andy Sisco gave up three earned runs in 7.0 innings for his sixth win of the season.
Attendance was a sold-out 12,500 at Xinzhuang Stadium Friday night.
Elsewhere in the CPBL, the Uni Lions edged the Lamigo Monkeys 6-5 to remain three games behind the Rhinos in the league standings.
The Elephants and Rhinos are back in Xinzhuang on Saturday, while the Monkeys and Lions are in Tainan. First pitches are 5:05 pm.
